Live Active Speakers and Active Stage Monitor, tips:
If you are in a Band, or if you organize events, DJ sets or Pianobar and Karaoke Events, you have probably encountered the "problem" of amplification.
In the panorama of Live amplification, however, the offer is very wide and if you are not particularly skilled you can remain confused in choosing the most suitable solution for you.
Precisely for this reason below you will find a mini guide on what are the main parameters to take into account if you are choosing an amplified speaker amplification system.
How many Speakers?
Consider your Live amplification system as a large Hi-Fi system, but it will amplify the signals that will be heard by more people in a closed or outdoor venue.
For this reason the sound front for many, if not the majority of applications is represented by at least 2 speakers (or multiples) ideally arranged on 2 columns to create a stereo listening.
If there is a need then to further extend the range of bass frequencies of the speakers themselves, usually insufficient in the case of medium or large spaces, then we would need to add to the configuration of our system also subwoofers, also amplified in this In this case, they will try to reproduce only the low frequencies, guaranteeing an even more qualitative listening and increasing the sound pressure and the efficiency of our entire system.
What power do I need?
It would seem the most trivial answer but the choice of the power of the amplification system depends on what we have to amplify and where.
Very generically we say that the more Watt the amplifier has on board the speaker, the more sound pressure (SPL) generated by the transduction of the loudspeaker will be.
Without going into technical detail and for simplicity we divide into 3 macro categories:
Small closed spaces or small outdoor venue - Watts required 50-200W Rms for each speaker (at least 2) - Optional subwoofer
Medium Closed spaces or Medium outdoor Venue (max 200 people) - Watts required 200-500W Rms per speaker (at least 2) - Subwoofer Optional but recommended (of equal power).
Medium-Large Outdoor Spaces (more than 200 people) - Minimum Watts 500W Rms per speaker (at least 2) - Subwoofer warmly recommended if not necessary (of equal power).
How Big (Woofer diameter)?
The amplified speakers can be found from about 6 "up to 15": with bigger woofer you will have as a result richer response in low frequencies.
Usually by selecting a speaker with woofer gradually larger the level of detail on the mid-range frequencies becomes smaller: this depends by characteristics of the speaker and the components that are mounted in it.
For a DJ set, for example, or to amplify a complete Band, we recommend the 15 ", especially if we do not have a subwoofer, for a speaker vocal-oriented or to amplify acoustic instruments recommended 10" or 12 ".
If we want our speakers to match a subwoofer we consider that the offer starts from about a 12 "up to 21".
In this case it is preferable to select a SUB with a slightly larger Woofer than our speakers for tonal reasons: if we have for example a pair of 10 "speakers, it is better to add a Subwoofer with at least 12" or even better with a 15 " , with a pair of 15 " satellites an 18" sub is preferable.
Other solutions are represented by compact PA systems.
Among these the compact vertical arrays, for example from RCF, FBT, MONTARBO, PROEL, TOPP PRO and others, are certainly interesting: they not only combine high-quality tone but guarantee high transportability and low weight.
The proposed structure consist of a Mini Array SUB + SATELLITE with features from the large arrays used for example in large stadium concerts where the effectiveness of the system is guaranteed even for single speakers not necessarily large (like for the speakers mentioned above).
