Here at Musicarte, among the many accessories, we have a large variety of guitar plectrums in terms of thickness, material and shape in which they are made. You can find thin, thin, medium, heavy and very heavy extras and triangular, oval, asymmetrical in all possible and imaginable materials. But how can you choose the plectrum that's right for you? First of all, it depends very much on the genre you play and the way you use them.
Let's talk about Thickness: For example, if the pieces you play are very strumming (percussive plucking on the strings), it would be better to choose an extra thin or thin plectrum. Their advantage lies in their flexibility. With a thinner plectrum, you do not have to worry much about how to balance the plectrum between your fingers (as opposed to heavy and very heavy plectrums). This makes the Thin or Extra Thin plectrum a fantastic choice for guitar beginners. Thin plectrums usually have a thickness of 0.02mm to 0.04mm
If you're not a big fan of strumming sound and you're softer and have more control and dynamics in your right hand, you could use Medium picks, usually between 0.04 and 0.07mm in size.
Do you like more rock music genres, hard rock and heavy metal? Choose a heavy or extra heavy plectrum (Heavy or Extra-Heavy). They are ideal for rock guitarists because they are able to counteract the tension of the strings, giving you the opportunity to play single chords or notes at a much faster and more tight rhythm, feeling more the sound of the plectrum. In addition, with the heavier plectrums you can more easily change the dynamics of the sound, making the touch and the volume differences between the piano and the forte more strongly depending on the pressure of the hand. Heavy and extra heavy picks are perfect for power chords and palm muting.
The material with which the plectrums are produced greatly affects the sound you want to get from your guitar. From steel to acrylic, from cellulose to plastic, up to ebony wood and felt passing from bone or horn. Try them all to understand which material best suits your playing style and makes you recognizable from afar based on your personal touch.
Musicarte guides you through the selection of plectrums with a classic shape (351 Fender), triangular, oval and drop shaped, as well as the brand new and very particular hand-carved plectrums from Essetipicks. The standard plectrums are the most common, their rounded peak and wide size allow a variety of grip styles. The triangular plectrums have a large gripping area with a sharper tip, which makes them excellent for strumming or accompaniment. The oval guitar plectrums can be bigger or smaller, depending on the model. They are known for their powerful impact on the strings and the ability to emphasize the high frequencies. The drip tips are small with a rounded peak, giving you a good grip.
We also have a huge selection of thumb picks (thumbpicks) or fingers called fake fingernails.
Dunlop, Fender, Pickboy, Ibanez, Essetipicks are just some of the major brands we sell. You will find out that guitar plectrums are available both as singles and in multiple packages that are cheaper for the price. Some have very bright colors to avoid that they are easily lost falling, however, stock up on plectrums because a self-respecting guitarist will never turn without his plectrum in his pocket or wallet.
